This scheme awarded by transport NI is the largest BRT scheme to date, the purpose of which was to introduce bus lanes along the Upper Newtownards Road between Knock junction and Dunlady Road, linking the wider East Belfast area to the City Centre providing better connectivity and reducing car use to and from the city centre.

Under the guidance of the principal contractor J McQuillan Contracts, our role was to carry out a wide range of civil engineering tasks. These includes excavation, drainage, ducting and kerbing. We also installed sixty signalised junction upgrades and in excess of one hundred road crossing and installing one hundred and thirty pole housing units. Other tasks completed were road widening and re alignment at Comber Road and Dunlady slip Road. Works also included the extension of two culverts and all temporary installation of sheet piling and dewatering requirements.

The project was registered under the considerate contractor scheme were we met stakeholders including residents, shop owners and community representatives and also personnel from Stormount Estate to ensure an agreed plan in minimising disruption. As a result of our audit we achieved a performance beyond compliance and gained huge satisfaction in carrying out a scheme of this size and nature. This was only achieved through the highly skilled workforce of our team at Demesne Contracts Ltd.
